This year’s Rally is on track to exceed 2018’s field of 304 cars, making it the largest tarmac rally event in Australasia.
In addition to the Classic and Modern Competition categories, the Adelaide Rally also caters for a growing contingent of non-competitive Touring entrants, offering the freedom of closed road stages on some of the country’s finest driving roads without the pressure of competition.
Tour entrants are speed limited and do not require helmets or roll cages, and entry is open to almost all cars and drivers.
Tour entrants can choose between the single-day Prima Tour, which runs ahead of the pack on the Thursday, or the full three-day Main Tour. Prima Tour takes in five closed road stages, while the Main Tour covers 23 stages up to 22km in length.
For drivers seeking the next level, the Spirit category is also non-competitive and untimed, with drivers speed limited to 120kmh by way of a Rallysafe device. Helmets are required for this category.
Of course, there are always the competition categories for those who want to take it to the limit.
The Adelaide Rally has an atmosphere and camaraderie unlike any other, with free community events bringing thousands of spectators, and a grand finale in the CBD.
